The last year has certainly been a wild ride on many fronts, but without the pressures from the world around us, who knows if DAOhaus would have formed our “war camp” and made the moves that got us where we are today. As a new (and already eventful) year kicks off, what kind of project would we be if we didn’t deliver a “year in review” (if only for our lootholders)?
So let’s do it. 🚀 First, if you’re not signed up for these updates, what are you thinking!? Fix that. :)
The Start
It started with Pokemol, and just building one-off interfaces for DAOs, out of which was born DAOHaus version 1 as a tool to summon and discover all these new “pocket molochs.”
At the beginning of the year, with a bit of grant runway from MetaCartel and MolochDAO, our War Camp came together to start hashing out a plan to make all of this stuff look and feel like it wasn’t invented in a few days at ETHBerlin.
In July we dropped the first draft of our HausDAO Manifesto in which we outlined our plans for the platform, the community, and launch of the $HAUS token. This also began the “bootstrap” phase of our project, which ended with our version of a DAICO, which we called a “CCO.”
The CCO
In early August we launched our “Community Contribution Opportunity” to really pour some fuel on the flames of the War Camp fire. This is when many of our wonderful lootholders joined the effort. Thanks to nothing more than community interest and support we raised roughly 250,000 DAI, directly into a DAO dubbed HausDAO.
As outlined in the manifesto, this moved us to the next phase in which those funds would be used to build the next version of DAOhaus. Throughout the year, as these funds have been spent, our Transmutation contract has used this expenditure as “proof of contribution” and moved $HAUS tokens into the DAO. When we have finished, and HausDAO is dissolved, this $HAUS will be unlocked for the first time.
The Sprint
With a plan, and money in the bank, War Camp split into task-focused “circles” and we started work in earnest in August. Since then we have been building, iterating, and generally battle-testing DAOhaus v2 with the community. Below are specific updates from each of the circles:
Magesmiths (Product/Dev)
Magesmiths formed as a combination of the product “mages” and development “smiths” to get to work on fleshing out the product roadmap and building that sucker. Working from the initial inspiration of the original DAOhaus and the ideology outlined in the manifesto, they got to work on the world’s best (only?) community first DAO platform.
Back at the beginning of December, they dropped the alpha version which we called our “Foundations” launch. Read more about the features of that launch and the thinking behind them here. And, of course check out “Build Your Haus” the trailer the Rangers launched to go with it.
Since this launch the Magesmiths have been focused on further refinements on the Foundation layer based on feedback generated by the Foundations Program (more on that below) as well as building out the “First Floor” of the Haus which will introduce a bunch of other cool stuff you’ll get to see soon. 😉
Paladins (Ops)
The Paladins were assembled to handle ops and admin. They’ve orchestrated weekly meetings, kept an eye on the budget, and kept the rest of the circles on track with payments and proposals.
Paladins have also been working closely with the Magesmiths to develop features which will make this same kind of work easier for other DAOs using the DAOhaus platform. We think this can be a killer feature for teams and projects using a DAO to manage day to day operations and things like bookkeeping and payroll. (More on this as we make features available for testing.)
Alchemists (Tokenomics)
Having successfully orchestrated the HausDAO CCO, the Alchemists started working on the ideas of how to grow the open DAOHaus platform through $HAUS dynamics. Each week they’ve lead the rest of the team in discussions of questions like “what does it look like to have a DAO made up of DAOs?”
The Alchemists have also started working with the Magesmiths on token related features to allow other DAOs to do things like govern protocols, hold NFTs, and run their own CCO. Needless to say, the possibilities are endless and exciting, but to say more would be to leak just a bit too much alpha. But we can say that you should keep watching this space for more 😉 .
Rangers (Comms/Community)
The Rangers camp was formed to handle community-building, communications, and biz dev. They started by setting up basic infrastructure (Discord, YouTube, newsletter, forum, podcast etc. — links below) while mapping out the timeline to launch for a content and engagement calendar.
They dialed in production workflows to keep a stream of posts, newsletters, livestreams, podcasts, and Tweets flowing. With this established they began refining the strategy based on engagement metrics, and have settled into a pattern of steady growth on Substack, YouTube, Twitter, and Discord signups/subs. (Yay! Thanks for reading 👋.)
With engagement campaigns established, they were able to focus on what pilot programs might look like and recently announced the first wave of the "Foundations Program" and something they're calling "feedback farming." More on the goals of that program in the linked post.
From here they are focusing on this program, and other launch events to coincide with the release of our full v2 platform.
Coming in 2021
We don’t want to give away too much here just yet. But you’ll already have caught some of the good stuff if you’ve been hanging around in our Discord. If you haven’t… what gives? Jump in Discord, subscribe on YouTube, Sign up for the newsletter, the links are all at the bottom.
Pretty soon we’ll have content coming down the line to show off new features, new use cases, and of course details on what it looks like when we take the chain off of $HAUS.
